Responsible to: Centre Manager

Hours: 40 per week

Salary: Dependent upon experience

Purpose: To manage and carry out all food production for the Capstone Café and provide catering for events held at the Capstone Centre.

Key tasks:

  • In conjunction with the Centre Manager and Café Supervisor, plan the café menu and the menu offered during events.

  • Proactively suggest new menu items and specials.

  • Estimate expected food consumption and organise preparation.

  • Keep records and accounts of food purchases, which should be passed onto the Centre Manager.

  • Accurately cost all dishes to ensure a suitable profit is maintained.

  • Plan and undertake all food production and preparation for the Café – including making cakes, soups, sandwiches  and other items as agreed.

  • In conjunction with the Centre Manager, plan and carry out food production for events held at the Capstone Centre and occasionally external events.

  • In conjunction with the Centre Manager develop a group of suppliers that meet the café and centre’s needs and manage the ordering process to ensure the kitchen is never out of stock of key items.

  • Promote high levels of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen at all times and ensure the maintenance of equipment and machinery.

  • Carry out all checks and systems for cleaning the kitchen to meet environmental standards.

  • Manage volunteers and other members of staff working in the kitchen.

  • Act as a liaison to front-of-house staff to ensure a high standard of food leaves the kitchen at the right time.

  • Attend meetings as required; writing and/or presenting reports to the Centre Manager.

  • Contribute to a culture of equality and demonstrate a commitment to removing all forms of discrimination as a colleague and service provider for the local community.

A flexible approach is required for this role, as additional duties commensurate with the role may occur from time to time. Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Previous experience in the catering and hospitality sector, including menu setting and food preparation

  • Stock control

  • Food Hygiene or Food Handling qualification

  • A working knowledge of Health and Safety

  • Emergency First Aid and/or Health and Safety qualification - desirable

  • Good communication skills – verbal and written

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Good organisation skills
